As I strolled down the driveway toward the back of the house, I was greeted by the unmistakable symphony of my mom’s disgruntled grumblings. There she stood, bravely battling the outdoor spigot, her shirt now sporting a fashionable wet mark and an expression that could cause the grumpiest of people to turn a frown upside down. I couldn’t contain my laughter any longer; I was witnessing the epic showdown of Mom vs. Water!
As I stood there laughing at my mom’s little adventure with the spigot, I took it upon myself to call upon my inner detective and see what kind of chaos was going on. Lo and behold, I discovered a crack in the base of the spigot, which explained why the water was joyfully spraying outward like a confused fountain instead of just, you know, doing its job and flowing down!
As my mom trudged her way into the house, my laughter chased her like a mischievous echo, eager to spill the beans to my dad about her entertaining “I Love Lucy” impersonation. We exchanged glances, both trying not to burst into more laughter, before heading back outside to the spigot, where my dad, donned with an expression of determination, removed the broken attachment. With a few swift twists and turns, he worked his magic, making it as good as new. It was an easy fix to an annoyingly cold shower that had disrupted our time of planting flowers.
Beauty in the Brokenness
As I thought about my mom’s little mishap with the spigot, I realized something profound. While it was cracked and broken, water still flowed out of it. It’s broken piece could not stop the spigot from working the way it was made to work, demonstrating a resilience amid its imperfection. Despite the cracks we acquire and the challenges we face, there remains an ability to flow and function as God created us to function. It struck me that even in our brokenness, we can still minister and provide joy to those around us, much like that spigot continued to do its job, reminding me that beauty and purpose often lie in our imperfections.
Every one of us carries some kind of brokenness from our past. It could be a broken heart, the loss of health, the loss of a loved one, or a broken relationship. Oftentimes, the pain from our broken lives could be so great, we have a hard time seeing how things could ever be restored. Yet, in moments of despair, we must remember that these experiences are not the end of our journey, but rather, something that pushes us closer to God gaining His strength and wisdom. Sometimes healing is a gradual process, often requiring us to seek help from God. As we work through the broken pieces of our lives, we may discover that our scars can transform into sources of strength and resilience. It is in our struggles where we can find comfort in the words of Psalms 147:3 AMP that says:
“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds [healing their pain and comforting their sorrow].”

Only God Can Heal Our Broken Pieces
Have you ever tried to put back together the broken pieces of your life? It can feel like an overwhelming task, as if you are attempting to rebuild a fragile vase that has shattered into countless pieces. We may put a little glue here or there, convinced that with our efforts, we are all fixed and ready to go. Yet, no matter how much we patch up the cracks, the scars still remain. Unlike the quick spigot fix, our fix is one that seems to take forever.
We can not glue ourselves back together and hope for a permanent fix. A crack will show up at any moment leaking all of the hurt and pain we are carrying. Only God can fix and restore us. We need Jesus to come into the broken areas of our lives, scoop up the pieces, and put us back together. Psalms 34:18 says:
“The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, And saves such as have a contrite spirit.“
Many times we may feel abandoned by God in our brokenness, all alone in our messes, as if the weight of our struggles is too much to bear. But God has promised us that He is near us in our brokenness. He is offering comfort and strength, even when we feel lost. He invites us to turn to Him, reminding us that we are never alone in our trials and that His love surrounds us, sustaining us through the darkest of times.
As we allow Him to repair the broken pieces of our lives, His love shines through making us more beautiful than we were before.
Bible Verses About Beauty
If you are struggling in your brokenness and finding it hard to believe God is near and loves you, here are a few Bible verses that may be of some help.
Ecclesiastes 3:11
“He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, he has put eternity into man’s heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end.”
Genesis 1:31
“And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.“
2 Corinthians 5:17
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”
Isaiah 43:19
“Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.”
Revelation 21:5
“And He who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.”
Jeremiah 29:11
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
Isaiah 42:9
“Behold, the former things have come to pass, and new things I now declare; before they spring forth I tell you of them.”
Conclusion
Isn’t it funny how a tiny mishap in our lives can have a deep biblical meaning? I never thought my mom being sprayed with water from a broken spigot would teach me something about God taking our brokenness and making something beautiful out of it. But it did. God wants us to come to Him with hands wide open offering Him the broken pieces of our lives. He is the only One who can put us back together and make us more beautiful than ever before. He has good plans and a good future for each and every one of us. Decide today to surrender the broken areas of your life so you can be made new and flourish in what has called you to be.
